REPORT OF ACTIONS
12AUG2011
Reporting on an incident on the Berezina front, by Collective Farm # 757. A Rifle Group, under command of Yefreytor Pelt came under violent and sudden attack by a section of Fascist motorized infantry. The enemy were later confirmed to be apart of the 25.Infanterie (Motorized).
At the time the attack occurred, the lines were being inspected by Leyt. Rinaldi and his adjutants, whom quickly organized a defense based around the squad's DP-28. Realizing that the positions to the North were relatively poorly defended and that serious gaps between the neighboring platoons were exploitable by the infantry, Leyt. Rinaldi placed his two adjutants - both marksman's of notoriety - in position by a stonewall in excellent cover to counter any attempts to outflank and infiltrate by the enemy.
Shortly thereafter a forward observation point reported significant enemy movement on the ridge opposite of the Group. Immediately, the position received fire from at least 1 Squad Automatic Weapon. We returned fire in kind but no one side regained fire superiority, though being in superior cover we caused light casualties on the enemy.
The firefight with the opposite raged on, and it became obvious that the enemy were not making this attack their main effort. The attention of the embattled Group shifted north, and as expected, a flanking enemy Gruppe was engaged and destroyed, stranded in the center of a river and with no place to hide. Yefreytor Fox, one of the two Marksman put in position to destroy this flank was killed in the rapid exchange of fire.
With the enemy's flank having failed, the enemy on the ridge opposite deployed a healthy smokescreen and disengaged us, successfully retreating down the ridge and out of sight. The prolonged firefight with them had caused numerous casualties, none fatal.
Yfr. Pelt reports one man killed, two men wounded. 10 enemy were found dead on the battlefield following an investigation. Assorted small arms were captured from the corpses, including 2 MP38/40s and 2 MG-34s. There is little ammo for them, however. Yfr. Pelt recommends his squad is swapped out to the Company reserve until his men's wounds have been treated, I suspect this attack by the enemy, judging by its half-hearted nature, was little more then a probe. Given the broken and spread out nature of our defenses, I must express concern that any concentrated push between these gaps would be disastrous. We hold in accordance with Stavka directives.
